Introduction to Screen Acting

Who could benefit from this course?

  • Performers with little or no experience of acting on camera.
  • Anyone who wants to learn the basics
  • Anyone interested in doing more screen work.

How does it work?

  • Learn the basic process of how a film is made including working with different shot sizes (wide, mid and close up)
  • Learn how to listen and respond on camera, and interact truthfully with other performers
  • A brief look at continuity and working with props, hitting marks, sound and the recording of dialogue, the workings of different kinds of sets; low budget, short film, feature, soap, high budget television, and multi camera and single camera shooting.
  • Once the basics are covered we will start to rehearse and shoot short scenes on camera and then review and watch back work for feedback.

Teacher
Steve North is an experienced screen and stage actor with over 20 years acting experience working on long running TV dramas, guest lead roles and feature films. For four years he played Fire fighter Colin Parrish on ITV’s long running series London’s Burning. He directed the award winning short film Cregan  for the Film Council, co-wrote the feature film South West Nine and was an Associate Producer on the film of The Football Factory. His course is a unique perspective on screen acting from a working professional who understands screen acting from both sides of the camera.

Our tutors are all working actors and directors with many years of experience in TV, Film and Theatre. Together they provide a storehouse of knowledge and techniques, helping new actors gain the tools and self assurance they need to gain work in the profession. Many classes have small numbers of students, enabling personal tuition and feedback. Teaching is tailored to the groups and students receive personal attention enabling them to grow as performers.
